Passwords

From Anne Gross, a first grade teacher at Orange River Elementary School in Ft. Myers, Florida:

ìEach week in reading we focus on the sound of a consonant. During the week when we learn the sound of ëPí, we use a ëpasswordí to enter the reading circle. The password is any word that has the initial sound of ëPí such as pie, pony, paper, or purse. In order for a student to take a seat in the reading circle, he or she is asked say any word that begins with the sound of ëP.í After they say a word that begins with ëPí, I say ëPlease come in. This is a fun learning activity that starts the lesson with PIZZAZZ!î
